Why British Steel Is Costing Taxpayers £1.3m a Day

British taxpayers pay £1.3m a day to keep British Steel running, possibly £1.5bn by 2028, Parliament's spending watchdog, the Public Accounts Committee, warns. The government took ownership in July to save Scunthorpe and 4,000 jobs. MPs say ministers have no lasting business plan and want a published plan covering costs, funding and how to make steel with less pollution.
