President Donald Trump told supporters in Gastonia, North Carolina on Sept. 16 to treat the Senate election — the contest for Congress — as a vote on him: 'I just want you to go out and pretend I'm on the ticket, because essentially I am.' He backs Republican Michael Whatley against Democrat Roy Cooper for retiring Sen. Thom Tillis's seat.
