Private Fair Gets Official Government Backing on National Mall

A privately run state fair opening June 25 on the National Mall has received official status as part of the government's 250th anniversary celebration. The National Park Service, which oversees the Mall, typically only gives that stamp of approval to government-run events. This designation gives the fair's organizers federal support and access they wouldn't normally get. It's unclear if Congress has approved any funding.
