99 spots in Congress will have someone new after 2026

99 seats in Congress — 83 in the House and 16 in the Senate — are guaranteed to have someone new in the job compared with the start of 2025, NPR reported Sept. 16, 2026. The reasons are 16 deaths or resignations, 13 losses in early party votes, and 73 retirements or bids for another office.
