Farmers ask for help to fix 800 miles of hedges

If approved, English farmers' grant requests would repair 1,300km (800 miles) of old, bushy field borders — about the distance from Land's End to Hadrian's Wall and back. Hedge laying is cutting tall plant stems nearly all the way, then bending them sideways, like combing hair flat.
