Ancient Elephant-Like Tooth Found in Bay Area Creek

Scientists who study ancient life confirmed a big back tooth found by land scientist Brigid Lynch in a San Mateo County creek bed is from a grown Pacific mastodon, an ancient elephant-like animal, about 10,000 years old, the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District announced. Perfectly preserved, it gives a rare glimpse of the Bay Area's Ice Age past.
