10,000-year-old Pacific mastodon molar found in San Mateo County creek

Paleontologists confirmed a tooth recovered by geomorphologist Brigid Lynch from a San Mateo County creek bed is an adult Pacific mastodon molar about 10,000 years old, the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District announced. The tooth, reported in immaculate condition, provides a rare Ice Age record for the Bay Area.
