Abdullah Ibrahim, South African Jazz Pioneer, Dies at 91

Abdullah Ibrahim, the Cape Town pianist who reshaped South African jazz by mixing local musical roots with global influences, died June 15 in Germany. He became an anti-apartheid icon, especially through the song *Manenberg*. His life showed how exile forced African artists to absorb new styles abroad, then bring those ideas home transformed.
