In 2013, Gary Bernhardt predicted that JavaScript—the language powering websites—would share the stage with faster, more portable technology underneath. WebAssembly, a new foundation layer finalized in 2019, does exactly that. Major platforms like Figma and Cloudflare have already built on it.
