Labour promises to bring back smokefree law if it wins in 2026
Labour will bring back its smokefree law if it wins government in 2026, health spokesperson Ayesha Verrall said at a Parliament panel. The law would stop anyone born from 2009 onward from ever buying tobacco. The current government scrapped the original 2022 law. The Greens and Te Pāti Māori support bringing it back.
