National says no to some new taxes but leaves fuel tax question open

National says it will not introduce new taxes if re-elected in November 2026. Finance spokesperson Nicola Willis ruled out a tax on hotel beds and a tax on banks — two of three new taxes Prime Minister Christopher Luxon had raised before. The party said nothing about a possible fuel tax increase. Luxon said taxes would be a key election issue.
