TikTok and ByteDance to pay $400 million over children's privacy violations
TikTok and ByteDance will pay $400 million to settle government charges they let millions of children under 13 use the app and collected their data without asking parents. That is about 70 times more than a $5.7 million penalty from 2019 that the companies had already broken. TikTok admits no wrongdoing; the deal requires tougher age checks and parental controls.
