Google and UK Government Test AI to Reduce Plane Pollution
Google and the UK government have launched Operation Blue Skies, a 30-month trial over the northeastern Atlantic. AI weather models will spot areas where planes leave contrails — the white lines that trap heat and cause about one-third of aviation's climate impact. Air traffic controllers can then shift flight altitudes by up to 2,000 feet to avoid them. Trials run across the next two winters.
