Government Bond Rates Hit 4.73%, Far Above What Experts Predicted
The interest rate on 10-year U.S. government bonds reached 4.73% on August 11, 2026, up from 4.14% in March. A Reuters poll a year earlier, when the rate was 4.27%, expected about 4.30%. Fears that tariffs would raise prices, plus a flood of government borrowing, pushed rates far higher than experts forecast.
