
New PM Burnham promises £340m to end street homelessness as prison releases without housing hit five-year high
Newly appointed Prime Minister Andy Burnham pledged £340 million over three years to end rough sleeping in England. The same day, charity Nacro reported that people leaving prison without a place to live has risen every year since 2021-22, reaching 15,155 in 2025-26. Of those released to the streets, three in four commit another crime within a year.
