National Guard Has Patrolled D.C. for a Full Year, Stay Extended to 2029

Armed National Guard troops have patrolled Washington, D.C. for a full year as of August 2026. President Trump ordered the deployment — the largest of its kind under his presidency — after declaring a "crime emergency." The Guard's mission has been extended through Inauguration Day in January 2029.
