Oman fights massive oil spill threatening coastal waters and wildlife

Oman's Environment Authority said on August 10 it is rushing to contain a vast oil spill — nearly 400 square kilometres, roughly five times the size of Paris — from the damaged tanker Caroline Bezengi. The slick is within 7 km of Oman's southern coast, centred on the Hallaniyat islands, a recently protected marine area. The sanctioned ship may carry about one million barrels of crude oil.
