Why the $100M Gold Bar Scam Against Seniors Is Nearly Impossible to Reverse

New York AG Letitia James warned that scammers stole over $100 million from 100-plus victims, mostly seniors, using a hybrid cyber-physical scheme. Fraudsters gain remote computer access via fake pop-ups, fabricate hacking evidence, then coerce victims into buying gold bars for "authorities" to collect. Unlike bank transfers, physical gold handed to couriers is effectively irrecoverable. Similar cases have surfaced in five states.
