Federal Appeals Court Orders Trump Administration to Halt White House Ballroom Construction

The D.C. Circuit ruled 2-1 on Aug. 7, 2026, that the Trump administration must stop building its White House ballroom, finding the project needs congressional authorization. The court stayed its order two weeks for a Supreme Court appeal. Trump called the decision "horrendous, politically motivated and unlawful" and said he would appeal immediately.
