Israel Strikes Southern Lebanon as Peace Talks Underway in Rome
Israeli forces struck southern Lebanon on 5 August 2026, killing at least one and wounding twelve, according to Lebanon's health ministry. Israel called the strikes a response to a "blatant violation of the ceasefire" by Hezbollah. The attacks coincided with US-backed peace negotiations in Rome. The 19 June ceasefire had held for just over six weeks.
