Judge Dismisses Final Jan. 6 Case, Erasing Oath Keepers Seditious Conspiracy Convictions

U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta on Aug. 4 dismissed the seditious conspiracy case against eight Oath Keepers defendants, including founder Stewart Rhodes, who was sentenced to 18 years in 2023. The Trump Justice Department moved to vacate the convictions. The dismissal closes the last open federal prosecution from the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Mehta wrote that the decision "diminishes the gravity of Jan. 6."
