CDC Expands Largest U.S. Cyclosporiasis Outbreak to 15 States, 6,707 Confirmed Cases

As of July 28, the CDC recorded 6,707 confirmed cyclosporiasis cases nationwide, with about 11,500 more suspected. Six new states — Arkansas, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, and North Carolina — bring the outbreak footprint to 15. Michigan, hardest hit with 11,234 cases, reported the first two U.S. deaths. The parasite spreads via contaminated food or water.
