15 Elephants Dead in Kenya, Cyanide Pesticides from Tomato Farms Suspected

Fifteen elephants died between 24 June and 24 July 2026 in Kenya's Kimana corridor between Amboseli and Tsavo National Parks. KWS suspects cyanide-based pesticides on tomato farms caused partial paralysis seen in the carcasses. Conservationists and local farmers doubt pesticides alone explain the deaths, noting decades of coexistence without comparable die-offs. Final toxicology results are pending.
