Extortionist Planted AI-Modified Content to Trigger Telegram App Store Removal

Apple removed Telegram from its App Store on August 3, 2026, after an extortionist edited an old message in a public Telegram group to insert AI-modified child sexual abuse material, then reported it to Apple. The content was hidden from active chat members. Apple removed the app before contacting Telegram. Telegram was restored the same day.
