ACT defends misleading medicine-funding image by calling it 'a graphic and not a graph'

ACT's press secretary for Todd Stephenson defended the party's Facebook pill-stack image — showing Australia's 215 funded medicines as 10 pills and New Zealand's 86 as two — by calling it "a graphic and not a graph." University of Auckland biostatistics professor Thomas Lumley said the image depicts a five-fold difference when the actual ratio is 2.5 times. The Advertising Standards Authority gives political advocacy ads wider latitude than ads implying data accuracy.
