Heavy artillery and drone fire erupted August 2 in Shererina, western Tigray, between Ethiopia's federal army and TPLF rebels — the first major breach of the 2022 Pretoria peace agreement. Hundreds of Tigrayans fled into Sudan. An earlier phase of the conflict killed an estimated 600,000. A TPLF member reported a "de-escalation" by August 3.
