EU Begins Enforcing Binding AI Content Labeling Rules

On August 2, 2026, the EU began enforcing Article 50 of the AI Act. Platforms serving EU users must label AI-generated content — including deepfakes, AI-composed media, and news summaries — and disclose when users interact with AI chatbots or agents rather than humans. The EU is the first major jurisdiction with binding, at-scale AI transparency requirements. Non-compliance risks fines up to €15 million or 3% of global revenue.
