Solar power supplied a record 14.4% of Great Britain's electricity in July 2026, up 50% from 9.6% a year earlier, according to National Energy System Operator data. Ember analyst Frankie Mayo calls it the UK's "second solar boom." The surge spans both rooftop and utility-scale buildout, with 142,536 new installations recorded in the first half of 2026 — the most for any six-month period since 2011.
