Federal Jury Convicts Salman Rushdie's Attacker of Terrorism, Tying Stabbing to Hezbollah

A federal jury in Buffalo convicted Hadi Matar of providing material support to Hezbollah and transnational terrorism for his 2022 stabbing of Salman Rushdie at a New York literary conference. Prosecutors linked the attack to a 2006 Hezbollah speech enforcing a 1989 fatwa against Rushdie. Matar, already serving 25 years on state attempted-murder charges, now faces up to life in federal prison.
