Yemen's Diesel Prices Nearly Double Since January, Halting Construction and Throwing Thousands Out of Work

Diesel in Yemen's government-controlled areas rose from 25,000 to 45,000 riyals ($17–$30) per 20 litres between January and late July 2026, per Al Jazeera. The US-Iran war disrupted fuel imports Yemen depends on almost entirely. Construction has stalled nationwide; labourer Fuad Mohammed in Taiz cut his daily wage from $17 to $13 and still found no work.
