Australian doctors prescribing medicinal cannabis at THC levels four times above tested limits

A Monash University review published in Drug and Alcohol Review found that Australian doctors are prescribing medicinal cannabis with THC concentrations reaching 88%, while clinical trial evidence exists only up to 22%. No safety or efficacy data covers concentrations above that threshold. Australia sets no upper THC limit. Of over 1,000 available products, only two passed TGA pre-market evaluation. The TGA has designated medicinal cannabis a 2026 priority area.
