Xbox Outage Bricked Disc-Based Games: Physical Discs Require Cloud Licensing Check

A single external licensing service failure caused a roughly 17-hour Xbox outage beginning July 27, disrupting sign-in, game launches, and storefront access across Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Xbox 360. The outage blocked even disc-based games, revealing they share the same cloud entitlement verification as digital titles. CTO Scott Van Vliet called it an "unacceptable situation."
