PJM Grid Will Cut Power to Large Data Centers During Shortages Starting June 2027
PJM Interconnection, whose grid serves 67 million customers from Virginia to Illinois, will begin curtailing power to data centers drawing 50 MW or more during shortages starting June 2027. Affected facilities may receive as little as 30 minutes' notice, with compensation provided. Wholesale electricity prices on PJM's grid nearly doubled over the past year amid surging data center demand.
