Former Taupō mayor David Trewavas dies suddenly at 63

Former Taupō mayor David Trewavas died suddenly on 28 July 2026, aged 63. Trewavas served 24 years on the Taupō District Council, including 13 as mayor from 2013 to 2025. He lost the mayoralty to John Funnell in the 2025 local elections. Mayor Funnell described him as a people person with genuine interest in others. The council extended condolences to his whānau.
