Uganda's state-led food relief test in Karamoja
After 19 hunger deaths, Uganda launched its first government-organized emergency food relief in Karamoja, distributing 9,400 tonnes to 313,987 households. The operation fills a gap left by international aid cuts. With 1.5 million facing acute food shortages and a 2022 crisis that killed over 2,200, the shift to domestic funding tests whether state capacity can replace donor safety nets.
