H5 Bird Flu Suspected in Seven Terns on South Australia's Limestone Coast, One Found 20km from Victoria
South Australia reported seven suspected H5 bird flu cases in greater crested terns along the Limestone Coast on July 27, 2026. One was found at Port MacDonnell, just over 20km from the Victorian border. CSIRO is analysing the samples; if confirmed, SA's total reaches 14. BirdLife Australia's Kate Millar called the outbreak "now taking hold and is evidence of spread," warning spring breeding could become an "engine room of viral spread."
