UK Cancels Kenya Military Exercise Amid Prosecution Jurisdiction Dispute
The UK Ministry of Defence cancelled a September 2026 military training exercise in Kenya involving roughly 1,500 British Army personnel. The dispute centers on which country can prosecute British soldiers for alleged offences on Kenyan soil under the bilateral Defence Cooperation Agreement, which permits up to six infantry battalions annually for eight-week exercises. The MOD said it "deeply regrets" issues around its defence presence in Kenya.
