Pompeii: Rare Frescoed Ceiling Fragments Recovered from Casa dei Pittori

Excavations at Pompeii's Casa dei Pittori recovered numerous fragments of a frescoed ceiling from a defined stratigraphic level — a rarity, since ceiling paintings were largely destroyed and scattered during the 79 CE eruption while wall frescoes often survived in place. The Parco Archeologico di Pompei published the find in May 2024 as a preliminary report; no lab analysis or reassembly is confirmed.
