Sole Surviving Attacker of 1972 Lod Airport Massacre Dies in Beirut at 78

Kozo Okamoto, the only survivor among three Japanese Red Army gunmen who killed more than two dozen people at Tel Aviv's Lod Airport on May 30, 1972, died July 23, 2026, in Beirut. He was 78. The PFLP announced his death. Okamoto served 12 years in Israeli prison before release in a 1985 prisoner exchange, then lived decades in Lebanon.
