Sony FX5 Brings VENICE-Derived X-OCN RAW and Open Gate to Sub-$5,000 Cinema Body

Sony's FX5, shipping August 2026 at $4,899.99, slots between the FX3 and FX6 in the Cinema Line. Its newly developed 18.2MP full-frame Exmor RS sensor is the first in the FX series to offer full-sensor Open Gate 3:2 readout and internal 16-bit X-OCN RAW recording. Triple base ISO (800/4000/12800) and a Dual Gain mode delivering up to 16 stops of dynamic range round out a feature set previously confined to higher-tier bodies. Key modes — 4K/240fps RAW, 5K X-OCN 120fps, and Open Gate XAVC-I — arrive via firmware expected by August 2027.
