Ortega Declares "No More Elections" in Nicaragua
Speaking on July 20 at the 47th anniversary of the 1979 Sandinista revolution, President Daniel Ortega stated: "There will be no more elections here." He framed the move as blocking a U.S.-controlled opposition, saying opponents sought power "to seize the government." The speech was his first public appearance in two months. Regional and international responses have not yet been reported.
