FIFA Admits No Data Supports Mandatory World Cup Hydration Breaks, Future Undecided

FIFA's Arsene Wenger said on July 18 that the organization has no performance data showing mandatory three-minute hydration breaks improve players' abilities or game flow. The breaks, enforced regardless of weather at the 2026 World Cup, drew fan criticism — including during a 16°C match in Seattle. Wenger said FIFA has not decided whether to retain the protocol beyond this tournament.
