Mali Army Convoy Ambushed Leaving Recaptured Town of Anefis

On July 18, 2026, JNIM and the Azawad Liberation Front ambushed a Malian military convoy traveling from Anefis to Gao. The army had recaptured Anefis on July 10 at a cost of roughly 90 casualties. This was the second major convoy attack in Mali's Gao region in July. The army said it counterattacked but disclosed no losses.
