Cuban Dissident Artist Otero Alcántara Reported Missing One Week After Prison Release

Cuban dissident artist Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara was reported missing on July 17, 2026, one week after completing a five-year sentence. His whereabouts were unknown since the day after his release. A habeas corpus petition followed July 13. The U.S. Embassy in Cuba and Freedom House have called for action. He had planned exile in Miami and submitted a U.S. visa request.
