Fontainebleau Forest Burns as Wildfire Risk Shifts North Toward Paris

A wildfire in Fontainebleau Forest, southeast of Paris, burned over 800 hectares by 13 July 2026. The Gendarmerie nationale called the blaze "inédit" — unprecedented in scale. Historically, France's forest fires concentrated in the south; fires near Paris mark a geographic shift. Hundreds of firefighters and water-bombing aircraft responded, and evacuations were ordered.
