Half of Young CD Buyers Don't Own a CD Player, Luminate Reports
Luminate's 2026 midyear report found that roughly half of Gen Z and Millennial CD buyers in the US do not own a CD player. US CD sales hit 16.3 million units in the first half of 2026, up 16% year-over-year. Luminate says the CD has shifted from a functional audio format to an affordable collectible, coexisting with streaming rather than competing against it.
