Castellucci sentenced to 12 years for Morandi bridge collapse that killed 43

Giovanni Castellucci, former head of Autostrade per l'Italia, was sentenced to 12 years in prison on July 16, 2026, for his role in the August 2018 Morandi bridge collapse in Genoa that killed 43 people. Prosecutors had requested 18 years and six months. Castellucci was accused of postponing maintenance on the bridge's ninth pillar. He was already serving a six-year term for a separate 2013 highway disaster.
