Peters meets Pacific ministers in Auckland amid Australia's expanding defence footprint
Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters is set to meet ministers from Niue, Fiji and Samoa in Auckland on 15 July 2026. "In uncertain geostrategic times, it is more important than ever to connect," Peters said. The meetings come the week after Australia signed a defence pact with Fiji, following a prior agreement with Papua New Guinea. Niue's PM Dalton Tagelagi meets Peters for the first time since his May re-election.
