kitty 0.50.0 adds option to save and restore terminal sessions, including scrollback, across logout or restart

Kovid Goyal released kitty 0.50.0, the GPU-based terminal emulator, on 3 November 2026. A new restore_session_after_logout option saves every instance's state, including scrollback, on logout, restart or shutdown, and restores it on next start. The saved state is encrypted; on macOS the key is kept in the keychain, while on Linux restore requires the Inhibit desktop portal.
