Chinese Dinosaur Family Found in Thailand for First Time

Paleontologists have formally named Uragasaurus kalasinensis, a 20-meter sauropod from Thailand's Khorat Plateau, and assigned it to Mamenchisauridae—a long-necked dinosaur family known almost entirely from China. CT scanning revealed distinctive vertebral anatomy: a Y-shaped bone arrangement and unique air-cavity structure that clinched the family identification. The 150-million-year-old discovery extends Mamenchisauridae's range into Southeast Asia, signaling that Jurassic sauropod migrations spanned broader territories than previously documented.
